The Aero L-39 Albatros is a high-performance jet trainer aircraft developed in Czechoslovakia during the 1960s. It was the first of the second-generation jet trainers, and the very first turbo-fan powered trainer ever produced. Later updated as the L-59 Super Albatros and as the L-139 (L-39 with Garrett TFE731 engine). This design is still produced in an evolved state as the L-159 ALCA, while more than 2,800 L-39s still serve with over 30 air forces around the world. The L-39 Albatros is a versatile, light attack as well as basic and advanced pilot training aircraft, and it's the most widely-used jet trainer in the world. V-Pro's latest scale model jet, the V-Pro L-39 Albatros "Baby" was designed around new Tahmazo electric ducted fan unit; the DF-69 with IR-2825-3400 brushless motor. Beautifully made, gel-coated fiberglass fuselage is pre-painted with high gloss red finish. The removable front hatch/canopy allows easy access to the radio and battery compartment. The entire trim scheme is pre-painted and pre-trimmed, high quality balsa/ply wings and stabilizers are covered in UltraCote. Carbon fiber wing joiners are also included for added strength. The speed range is moderate with large envelop of aerobatic maneuvers. Difficult to stall, the jet will slow to a crawl and still maintain full control. Great to land, the approach is easy to control and smooth landings are easy. For increasing efficiency we recommend adding Mylar ducting from EDF unit to the tail opening (See Equipment and Trust Tube Installation Link).
The L-39 is the most widely-used jet trainer in the world. The V-Pro L-39 Composite offers a high quality composite fuselage, and balsa/ply built up wood wing design. Aerodynamically clean airframe is capable of reaching speeds over 100 mph (165 km/h).
