The Van's RV-9 aircraft is a two-seat, single-engine, low-wing homebuilt airplane sold in kit form by Van's Aircraft based in Aurora State Airport, Oregon USA. The RV-9 is a tail-wheel equipped aircraft and a development of earlier RV-6 and RV-7 models and externally it looks very similar to both those designs, however an increased wingspan and other airframe changes give it different flying style all together. The earlier versions of the RV aircraft series were all designed to have light handling, moderate aerobatic capabilities along with fast cruise speeds and short field STOL capabilities. Based on the very popular range of full scale homebuilt aircraft E-Flite's almost-ready-to-fly RV-9 model accurately represents the scale looks and outstanding flying abilities of its full-size counterpart resulting in a smooth flying sport model that is a delight to fly. The model features a lightweight balsa-plywood airframe that is covered Ultracote in an attractive red, yellow and blue color scheme with matching high-gloss pre-painted fiberglass cowling, wheel pants and a crystal clear canopy. To further enhance the scale looks the model features a detailed cockpit with molded seat backs and side mounted servos hidden by an access panels. Positive ground handling is assured thanks to the stylish and accurate swept-back landing gear and steerable tail wheel, and in the air equally positive handling is assured thanks to the lightweight airframe, generous wing span and light wing loading, whilst use of the optional flaps allow for realistically slow landing approaches to be made without drama!
The RV-9 was designed from the start as a two-seat, side-by-side, touring aircraft and as such it forgoes the aerobatic capabilities and the lighter handling for more stability and economy. Over 375 RV-9s and RV-9As had been completed and flying successfully throughout the USA and other countries.
