At the height of the Great Depression, aircraft executive Walter H. Beech and airplane designer T. A. "Ted" Wells joined forces to collaborate on a project many considered foolhardy, a large, powerful, and fast biplane built specifically for the business executive. The Beechcraft Model 17, popularly known as the "Staggerwing" was first flown on November 4, 1932, setting the standard for private passenger airplanes for many years to come. It was considered, during its time, to be the premier executive aircraft flying, much as the Gulfstream executive jets are considered in contemporary times. This highly detailed scale model is constructed of premium woods, high-quality painted fiberglass, and genuine MonoKote covering. Fiberglass construction captures every graceful line of the full size Beechcraft Staggerwing's fuselage. From the scale cockpit and dummy radial engine to the stringer assembly, even the rivets and panel lines are molded into the fiberglass fuselage, the details found on this model are astounding! The tail cover offers easy access to the model's internally concealed elevator and rudder controls. The included cockpit interior with pilot figure hides the internal structure and radio gear. Scale realism is further enhanced with preinstalled cockpit windows. Fixed landing gear is included with this model. For even greater realism you can also install optional scale Robart retracts, which plug into the same mounts that the fixed gear use. The wings break down into four sections for transporting, and plug into aluminum joiners for quick assembly without having to disconnect the pneumatic lines! Top Flite has taken maximum advantage of the Beechcraft Staggerwing's large, IMAA-legal dimensions to include an extraordinary amount of realistic details.

No one word can truly describe the Beechcraft Staggerwing. So many different lines, textures and feelings are experienced when you see your first Staggerwing. The smooth flowing silhouette, reverse stagger of the top wing and long tear drop fuselage make this plane appear to be speeding through the air even sitting still. It is a sight you will never forget.
