Wingspan: 120.75" (3070mm) Length: 60.5" (1535mm) Weight: 4.25-4.5 lbs. (1930-2050g) Channels: 5,6 Good: AXi 2826/12, 14x8 folding Better: Hacker B40 10L 4.4:1, 16x10 folding 2700/3300 3S 40mm spinner One of the most impressive European made sailplanes that we have ever seen, the Grafas 3.1E flies as good as it looks. Gentle, smooth, and very long flights are the standards for this beauty. The careful use of composites with competition balsa, creates a good light structure that will hold its shape for a long time. The synergy of low weight and strong structure is very unusual in a production sailplane and can only be achieved with careful attention to design and construction. The entire model is constructed using free-flight techniques. Top Model uses the latest construction techniques such as CNC milling and laser cutting. The wings as well as horizontal tail are all balsa built-up with Carbon Fiber main spare and leading edge. The fuselage is gel-coated fiberglass with white finish. Whole model is covered with Ultracote. All control surfaces are hinged with adhesive tape. This fully built sailplane needs only basic assembly and motor/radio installation. The 3-piece wing and full flying stabilizer are each easily removable for transport and storage. Each part is carefully hand-crafted with meticulous attention to detail. Value is simply incredible. Great sport or entry level competition F5J/LMR (Limited Motor Run) or ALES (Altitude Limited Electric Soaring) electric sailplane.Special Features:- Control Surfaces: Ailerons, Elevator, Rudder and Flaps - Tight covering, with all seams hand-sealed - Elegant gel-coated white fiberglass fuselage - Three-pieces wing with ailerons and oversized flaps - Ready-built Balsa/Carbon Fiber 3-piece wing design - Transparent Ultracote covered wings and tail parts - Includes all necessary hardware - Virtually perfect, extremely clean and well made More information (links):* Building Instructions (.pdf)* Building Pictures and Details* Tape Hinges Installation Airfoil Wing area Wing loading Empty weight

Grafas for ALES competition
Tom David

Flew my Grafas yesterday against some tough competition including a Polecat Scimitar and E-Supra. The Grafas was pretty comparable to the Scimitar. It wouldn't quite stay with the Supra but was darn close.
The Grafas indicates lift well. In a thermal it's stable. It likes to be turned with just rudder, while using the ailerons to control bank angle. Its speed range, while not the absolute widest, is still quite good and the plane is so trustworthy you can use all of its capabilities. I have crow set up, and the plane can be dived hard without gaining speed, then return to level flight with no drama at all. Camber is effective so you can optimize for riding lift or escaping sink.
Is it as good as a Pulsar or Topaz? Probably not quite (I haven't flown against them yet) but for being competitive in ALES on a budget, it's great.

I have had the Grafas 3.1 E flying for about a year,
Motor - Hyperion Gs3032-08
Prop - Cam 18X8 on a Turbo prop spinner
Esc - Castle 60
Battery - 3300 3S 25c
The model is a dream to fly, it climbs out like a home sick angle with vertical unlimited it makes a easy transition to level flight and thermals with the best TD craft that I have flown .
I think that turns tightly for its size and I have no problem staying in tight lift, it does well in low level thermal turn with no tendency to drop a wing .
Them model is ease to disassemble and transport with its three piece wing
The landings are simple with vary little elevator compensation needed to offset flap inputs.
The only minor challenge presented was during climb out on the first launch it looped on me, but some down trim and thrust were added and no problem.
Great model , easy to assemble , Great Flyer.
