Wingspan: 153.25" (3890mm) Length: 74" (1880mm) Weight: 17-19 lbs. (7720-8625g) Channels: 6,7 The DFS Habicht (German: "Hawk") was designed in 1936 by Hans Jacobs as an unlimited aerobatic sailplane, with support provided by the Deutsche-Forschungsanstalt fÃÃÃÃÃür Segelflug. Four planes were made available for the Olympic Games of 1936, where the evolutions of the Habicht over and literally inside the Olympic stadium enthralled spectators. The flight qualities of the Habicht were praised by pilots including Hanna Reitsch. It participated in many air shows abroad before the war, including the 1938 National Air Races in Cleveland, Ohio. The Let Model's scale version of this beautiful sailplane comes with the fiberglass fuselage and flawless finish in white or beige gel-coat. The windshield is removable with fiberglass frame and comes complete with a scale-like latch. The cockpit is completed with instrument dashboards and fiberglass seats, just like the actual plane. Releasable launch wheels as well as tow release are also installed. The wing and fuselage both have pre-installed wiring harnesses that also include multi-pin connectors for fast, trouble-free setup at the field. The wing is beautifully finished in scale like Solartex and ready for your aileron, and spoiler servos. The foam core, obecchi sheeted, composite reinforced wings are easily removed for transportation yet are securely held in place with Let Model's ingenious retention system. All these features give the Habicht performance characteristics similar to a full scale airplane while still remaining very light and beautifully built. The synergy of low weight and strong structure is very unusual even in a custom production sailplanes and can only be achieved with careful attention to design and construction. This model is considered one of the best values on the market today. Modified versions of the Habicht, dubbed the Stummel Habicht ("Stumpy Hawk") were used to train pilots to land the Messerschmitt Me 163 rocket-powered fighter. The Me 163 was designed to use its entire load of fuel to reach combat altitude and then return to the ground as a glider.
